Description:

Catherine Tiney has over 13 years experience as a full time massage therapist, she has worked with Mark Deal for 10 of those and taught Sports Massage at his former school. After graduating from TAFE in 1994, she became President of AMT in 1997, following this she travelled internationally for a year with Lord of the Dance and Gaelforce Dance as massage therapist for the troupe. Currently she is the manager and owner of Sydney Essential Health in Sydney's eastern suburbs and teaches her own workshops on Trigger Point Therapy. Her treatment techniques include Trigger Point Therapy, Muscle Energy Technique, Onsen Technique, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, Neuromuscular Technique and Myofascial Release.

Outline:

  1. What is a Trigger Point.
  2. Trigger Point diagnosis.
  3. The effective release of Trigger Points.
  4. Musculoskeletal assessment to complement palpation skills.
  5. Range of Motion (ROM) assessment of the neck and shoulder
  6. Resisted testing of the shoulder
  7. Prioritising problem areas (cause and symptoms)
  8. Treatment techniques for the neck and shoulder
  9. Re-assessment In this workshop

Catherine will begin by clearly outlining what a Trigger Point is and how to establish the location of problematic Trigger Points. She will then take you through some useful assessment tools, looking at postural deviations, musculoskeletal limitations in ROM and muscle weakness due to Trigger Points. Following this she will then cover effective treatment techniques to eliminate Trigger Points causing weakness and limitation in the neck and shoulder regions. You will then re-evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment and discuss common problems and how best to treat them.

Cathrine takes a problem solving approach to all her massage techniques with the goal to alleviate pain or prevent pain in the most efficient way possible. Although the focus of this workshop is Trigger Point Therapy, people familiar with this technique will not be disappointed as she encorporates a range of techniques and understanding of how the body works.
